Musical Instruments Donated by Delfi Media Have Reached Ukraine
The Estonian Ambassador to Ukraine, Kaimo Kuusk, and Head of the Estonian Centre for International Development (ESTDEV) Eastern Partnership Department, Lauri Luht, delivered a set of brand new musical instruments, valued at nearly 8,000€, to the Children’s Music School in the city of Malyn. The funds to purchase the instruments came from Delfi Media, who chose to donate the worth of the company’s Christmas gift fund to support the music school, which has been damaged in the war. Due to an ongoing air raid, the instruments exchanged hands in a shelter, where an impromptu performance by teachers took place the moment they were unpacked.
The city of Malyn was heavily damaged by Russian missile attacks in the beginning of the war, and as a result the instruments at the city’s music school were quickly rendered unusable. While children’s general education has continued, music studies have been untended due to the lack of instruments.
“The joy in this school community abounds, because with the help of Delfi Media, a complement of new, high-quality musical instruments has arrived in Ukraine. Even until the war began, the children had been learning on old and well-used instruments,” remarked Lauri Luht.
Donating instruments to children may seem a small gesture in a situation where it is necessary to win a war, reconstruct buildings, and tend to infrastructure. However, Estonian Ambassador Kaimo Kuusk affirmed, “During war, bright and inspiring moments of the human spirit are especially important. These gestures confirm that Ukraine is not alone, and offer people the hope and strength move forward.”
Delfi Media responded to ESTDEV’s call to send instruments to the Children’s Music School in Malyn. Rather than spend the money on company Christmas gifts, they donated the allotted amount to the purchase of these new instruments. “It’s a small step, but we hope that it brings some joy and optimism to children, parents, and teachers. It is with small steps that communities can regain a sense of security and begin to return to normal life,” commented Argo Virkebau, Chairman of the Board at Delfi Media.
The collection of musical instruments was organised by ESTDEV and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia.
