Ukraine’s accession process to the European Union (EU) requires the implementation of extensive reforms in the legal system, including the modernization of police education and training in accordance with European higher education and vocational education standards. An efficient and professional police service is one of the key factors in strengthening the rule of law and harmonizing with the EU acquis.
The current police education system in Ukraine does not yet fully meet the requirements of the European Educational Space, which limits Ukraine’s participation in European police education networks and slows down the implementation of necessary reforms in the police sector. The development of the system is hampered by both methodological and educational technological backwardness, including the limited use of modern teaching methods and digital solutions.
Training at the Zhytomyr Police Academy takes place under very limited conditions. The inadequate learning environment and insufficient technical base do not allow students to acquire all the knowledge and practical skills necessary for modern police work. This, in turn, affects the readiness of police personnel to implement work practices that meet EU standards.
