Strengthening International Humanitarian Cooperation and Digital Capacity
Project objectives
The objective of the project is to strengthen the institutional, operational, and digital preparedness of the Estonian Refugee Council in order to enable the organisation to responsibly and effectively expand its role within the international humanitarian system, respond to crises rapidly and in a coordinated manner, and contribute to the development of interoperability and innovation in the humanitarian sector.
Actions and results
- Supporting the capacity and organizational development of ERC staff through participation in key international humanitarian conferences and coordination platforms, combined with structured staff training and mentoring.
- Further geographical prepositioning of ERC in and near crisis countries, through initiating legal registration processes in two new target countries and conducting preparatory visits, thereby enabling rapid start-up and scaling of humanitarian interventions after crises and positive funding decisions.
- Developing the digital capacity of the entire humanitarian sector and positioning Estonia as a champion of digital capacity in the humanitarian sector through the implementation of an interoperability pilot project, which will test the use of Estonian-developed X-Road, in cooperation with a strategic technical partner, for secure and decentralized data exchange between humanitarian organizations.
Together, these activities will significantly improve the capacity of ERC, improving the positioning and reputation of both the organization and Estonia in general in the humanitarian landscape.
