Uganda’s education system faces significant challenges in developing digital competencies, especially in rural areas where the economy is predominantly focused on agriculture and access to digital infrastructure and skills is limited. The primary teacher training colleges targeted by the project play a key role in Uganda’s education system, as they are responsible for training future primary school teachers.

Project objectives

The project supports the development of digital skills and leadership capacity among teachers and education leaders at primary teacher colleges in rural Uganda, aiming to improve teaching quality and institutional management.

Actions and results

Project activities include training teachers from five primary teacher colleges through the Mondo DigiSkills Academy in Central, Eastern, Southwestern, and Northeastern Uganda, focusing on the practical use of digital skills in educational contexts.

In addition, ten education leaders and two representatives of the Ugandan Ministry of Education and Sports will participate in a one-week development programme in Estonia to design digital transformation plans for their colleges. Upon return, participants will form digital transformation teams and, with the support of micro-grants, initiate institutional change benefiting nearly 900 staff members and students.
