There are an estimated 25,000-50,000 people in Ukraine who have lost a limb as a result of the war. Among them, the proportion of civilians is very high, as Ukraine is one of the most mined countries in the world. This is why increasing the availability and quality of rehabilitation programmes in Ukraine has become a priority for Estonian development cooperation.

Project objectives

The goal of the project is to carry out team rehabilitation training of Ukrainian healthcare workers, as a result of which the provision of rehabilitation assistance will improve. The training program provides a theoretical and practical overview of the principles of modern multidisciplinary rehabilitation. The long-term goal of the project is to create a modern rehabilitation center in Ukraine. In addition, the longer-term goal is to help Ukrainian universities develop modern study programs in rehabilitation. Estonia has previous cooperation experience since 2019 in the development of an occupational therapy curriculum in Ukraine.
