Africa has significant potential for digital entrepreneurship and innovation, but progress is constrained by fragmented policies, weak coordination, limited infrastructure, skills gaps, and insufficient access to finance. Stronger collaboration between Africa and Europe on science, technology, and innovation policies could help strengthen ecosystems, attract investment, and accelerate sustainable economic growth.

Project objectives

The overall objective of the project is to strengthen digital and green development by reinforcing the partnership between Africa and Europe in the areas of digital entrepreneurship and innovation.

ESTDEV’s specific objectives focus on promoting digital entrepreneurship and innovation policies, strengthening digital innovation ecosystems, and improving access to financing for initiatives that support the digital and green transitions.

Actions and results

  1. Assessing and mapping the needs of ecosystem stakeholders to promote awareness, public engagement, and cooperation in the areas of digitalization, environmental sustainability, innovation, and entrepreneurship at the national, regional, African Union, and European Union levels
  2. Providing technical assistance to policymakers, government agencies, and ecosystem managers to implement policies
  3. Developing the institutional capacity of ISOs (innovation support organizations) to ensure sustainable development and growth
  4. Supporting ISO-s in digital and green sector-specific specialization
  5. Building networks among African and European investors, the private and public sectors, and academia
