Supporting independent media outlets in Ukraine’s frontline regions and strengthening cooperation with the Kyiv Independent

Regional and hyperlocal media outlets in Ukraine are operating in extremely difficult conditions – some outlets have been forced to close, many journalists work in dangerous conditions, and funding cuts have led to unpaid work and closures. The sudden loss of USAID and other funding has exacerbated the poor economic situation in the media sector, making the sustainability of independent outlets critical. When local media weaken, it creates space for Russian disinformation, especially in areas directly affected by the war. Therefore, supporting regional media is crucial to maintaining the dissemination of reliable information, the resilience of communities, and the development of democratic processes in Ukraine.
