Berdychiv Hospital is a regionally important medical institution in Zhytomyr Oblast and is part of the Ukrainian cluster hospital network. The hospital serves the residents of the city of Berdychiv and the surrounding area and provides both scheduled and emergency surgical care.

The existing operating room does not meet modern construction and sanitary-hygienic requirements. The spatial layout does not ensure a clear distinction between clean and dirty zones. The ventilation, electrical and medical gas systems are depreciated and do not allow for the safe performance of modern surgical procedures. The operating room capacity is also limited and work processes are not optimally organized.

ESDTEV, in cooperation with the Irish, will renovate the intensive care unit located on the second floor of the same building in 2026 and carried out the reconstruction of the roof of the same building in 2025.

Project objectives

The main goal of the reconstruction project is to create a modern, functional and compliant operating room that will allow:

  • to ensure safe and sterile surgical processes;
  • to increase the operating room's efficiency and throughput;
  • to improve the movement logic of patients, personnel and materials;
  • to enable the performance of surgical procedures of varying degrees of complexity;
  • to ensure modern and safe working conditions for medical personnel.
  • to integrate the technical systems of the entire building to ensure an optimal and energy-efficient system.

Actions and results

In the first phase of the reconstruction of the operating room, a thorough technical analysis of the building will be carried out, a design brief will be drawn up and design work for the reconstruction of the operating room will be commissioned. At the end of the project, the construction tender will be announced in order to move on to the construction phase, or phase II. The reconstruction of the operating room will strengthen the regional surgical capacity and ensure a long-term impact on the quality of healthcare services and increase the availability of medical care.

The works on the operating room will include, among other things, the renewal of the communications and electrical system of the entire building, which will allow for a comprehensive view of the hospital systems and ensure reliability.
