The project is part of the EU supported nation-wide programme “European Neighbourhood Programme for Agriculture and Rural Development” (ENPARD) phase IV, which aims to enhance well-being of rural population by strengthening conditions for more inclusive and sustainable growth. The project will particularly aim to contribute to the revival of rural areas, promotion of balanced and inclusive multisectoral development, in light of the structural transformations that are affecting economic and social fabric of rural communities in target 4 regions of Georgia (Kakheti, Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi & Kvemo Svaneti and Guria) with sustainability of the approaches on policy and programme level interventions. 

Project objectives

Georgia's Rural Development Support project aims to empower life in rural areas, improve rural services, make rural development inclusive and strengthen local infrastructure.

Actions and results

  • Improved rural development governance system for integrated and effective policy development and implementation achieved through 2 outputs: Output 1.1. Advanced institutional and technical capacities of MEPA and IACC and its working groups in rural development planning and implementation and Output1.2. Strengthened bottom-up and area-based approach in Rural Development policy development and implementation.
  • Improved rural services, infrastructure, empowered rural women and inclusive rural development achieved through 4 Outputs: Output 2.1. The needs of the population with migration background considered in the state programs. Output 2.2 New potential solutions for improving rural infrastructure promoted, as well as supporting mechanisms for resilient and sustainable rural livelihoods. Output 2.3 Accessibility of public services improved for disadvantaged, remote and depopulated rural areas. Output 2.4 Empowered Rural Women. 
  • Sustainable Use of Forest Resources and Improved Environmental Protection and Climate Action rachieved through 2 outputs: output 3.1. Support Sustainable Forest Management. Output 3.2 Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency market development for reducing pressure on forest resources and creation of alternative livelihood opportunities at Rural Areas.
