Since 2022, the National Psychological Association of Ukraine’s (NPA) Helpline has handled over 15,000 calls, delivering professional crisis mental health intervention support. However, with USAID funding suspended, continued support and alternative funding is necessary to ensure uninterrupted service provision to Ukrainians at home and abroad.

The funding disruption highlights a broader problem – unstable and short-term funding for mental health services, which often leads to fragmented and short-term interventions.

This collaborative project was born from the partners’ shared understanding of the need to create sustainable and scalable mental health support mechanisms for war-affected Ukrainians.

Project objectives

The primary goal of this project is to sustain and expand emergency psychological and psychiatric services provided through a critical mental health hotline for war-affected Ukrainians.

Actions and results

The proposed project will sustain and expand helpline operations, strengthen referral pathways to support Ukrainian refugees across Europe, and increase awareness of available services amongst vulnerable populations. Expected outcomes include expanded access to crisis support, structured follow-up therapy, and long-term mental health risk mitigation.
